Whitney Myers Named Honda Award Finalist

The Collegiate Women Sports Awards has announced that UA swimmer Whitney Myers is a finalist for the 2006-2007 Swimming and Diving Honda Sports Award for the second year in  a row, to determine the top female collegiate athlete in that sport.  The winner after nationwide balloting will become a nominee for The Honda-Broderick Cup awarded annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate woman athlete of the year.

Myers, a senior from Oxford, Ohio, was an individual champion in the 200 IM at the NCAA Championships last week, while finishing second in the 200 fly and contributing to two second-place relay teams.  Myers also posted six first team All-American honors at the meet, for a total of 25 that have been accumulated throughout her four years as a Wildcat. Myers was nominated for Homecoming Queen in the fall of 2006, and was also named the 2006 Pac-10 Women’s Swimmer of the Year.
